Chief Reynolds Promotes Second Deputy Chief and Captain
Huntsville, Alabama (July 28, 2006) Huntsville Police Chief Rex Reynolds filled two key positions within the Department during a promotion ceremony Friday afternoon. Henry Reyes was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police, and will take over as Administrative Bureau Commander. The 26-year-police veteran will be responsible for overseeing the Police Academy, Police Communications, Information Technical Services (ITS), Grants and Budgeting, Accreditation, Research and Planning, Records and Fleet Management. Reyes holds a B.S.B.A. in Business Management and a Masters of Arts in Public Affairs, both from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Reyes is a graduate of the 2nd Session of the Southeastern Command and Leadership Academy. Reyes is a Colonel in the Alabama Army National Guard, and also a graduate of the U.S. Army War College with a Masters in Strategic Studies.
Kirk Giles, was promoted to the rank of Captain, and will become the Special Operations Division Commander. One of his daily responsibilities will be to ensure that citywide specialized units run smoothly and effectively. He will be responsible for Traffic Task Force, DUI Task Force, School Resource Officers, Joint Terrorism Task Force, Bomb Squad, S.W.A.T. as well as several other specialized units. Giles began his career with the Huntsville Police Department in 1972 as a Ranger. He became a Huntsville Police Officer in 1977. Giles earned a B.S. Degree from Jacksonville State University and a Master’s Degree from Auburn University.
He is a graduate of the 212th Session of the F.B.I. National Academy.

Both men will assume their new duties effective July 31st. During the promotions, Reynolds said he was fortunate to have such a wealth of talented and dedicated personnel from which to choose from to meet the expanding challenges facing Huntsville. He said, “I am honored to have Deputy Chief Reyes and Captain Giles on my command staff. I am confident they will contribute to our ongoing mission to provide the best services possible to the citizens of Huntsville, and serve as strong role models for our up and coming Officers within the Department.
