Huntsville, Alabama, (February 18, 2014). Recently, Huntsville Police officers responded to a burglary in progress call on Bayless Drive. A witness advised two offenders walked from behind the residence carrying a toolkit and computer bag.  Another witness followed the offenders until contacted by police.  Our Officers arrived at the scene and relayed pertinent information to responding units.

Our Officers established a perimeter and notified K-9.  Our K-9 Unit tracked the scent of the suspects on Acklin Drive. The resident allowed a search of the premises and suspects and property fitting the description of that taken in the Burglary was located.

Two juveniles were charged with Burglary and may possibly be involved in other burglary cases in the community.

The actions and quick response displayed by our officers resulted in the recovery of the victim’s property taken during the burglary.  The crime was solved and all property recovered within one hour.

Councilman Bill Kling commended HPD for their outstanding work in the Southwest Huntsville neighborhoods.  West Precinct Commander, Captain Mark McMurray said “this is a perfect example of cooperative community policing at its best”.  He commended the Bailey Patton Homes Community Watch program, one of the most active community watch programs in the city, for being diligent and providing the tips needed to solve the burglary.
