Huntsville Police Release Findings of
 Incident Review Board

Huntsville, Alabama (December 2, 2013) On Tuesday, November 26, 2013, an Incident Review Board was convened to examine evidence and hear testimony related to the use of deadly force applied to the apprehension and capture of 21 y/o Sabore Dante Basden on November 16, 2013.  The Board was chaired by Captain Mark McMurray, and consisted of Lieutenant Gerald Norris, and Sergeant Clay Warmbrod.  Representatives from the City Attorney’s Office and the Madison County District Attorney’s Office were also present to review all evidence and hear all testimony.

On November 16, 2013, following a brief vehicle pursuit for reckless driving and flee and elude, the driver wrecked his vehicle and attempted to run away on foot into a neighborhood.   As Officers pursued the offender on foot, Mr. Basden began firing a handgun multiple times at officers. Our officer returned gunfire, striking him and causing him to fall to the ground.  Officers quickly captured Mr. Basden and he was transported for treatment.  The offender is now recovering and has been charged with “Attempted Murder of a Police Officer.”

After careful review of the evidence and testimony, the Board concluded that the Officer’s actions were in accordance with Departmental policies.  Huntsville Police Chief Lewis Morris concurred with the findings of the Review Board and the Officer involved has been returned to full duty.
