Veteranís Day Parade 2013
Downtown Huntsville

 

Huntsville, Alabama (November 07, 2013) Huntsvilleís annual celebration of Veteranís Day will be on Monday, November 11, 2013. The roads in downtown Huntsville will be closed in stages for the parade beginning at 8:00 AM. All of the roadways for the parade will be closed by 10:45 AM. and the parade will begin at 11:00 AM. The parade should be finished and all roads will be open by 1:15 PM.  Citizens traveling in the downtown area on Monday should expect two hours of slow moving detours in the area and drive with extreme caution due to the large number of children and pedestrians crossing the roads to view the parade. The Huntsville Police Department will be posting officers at all affected intersections to keep traffic flowing and business open in the area.

 

The parade will assemble and begin in parking Lot K at Clinton and Woodson Avenue and follow the same route as last year. However, this year the route will be reversed and the units in the parade will leave Lot K and travel east on Clinton Avenue, turn right to travel south on Monroe Street, turn left to travel east on Williams Avenue, turn left to travel north on Greene Street, turn left to travel west then south on Monroe Street, turn right to travel west on Holmes Avenue, turn left to travel south on Woodson Street and end at lot K.

 

Clinton Avenue eastbound traffic will be closed at Woodson Street at 8:30 AM on the morning of the parade for placement of equipment in the roadway.  Monroe Street between Jefferson Street and Washington Street will also be closed at 10:30AM for placement of equipment in the roadway at Veterans Memorial Park. 

 

All vehicle entrants in the parade will have to enter Lot K from the north entrance on Woodson Street just south of Holmes Avenue.  Woodson Street southbound at the Lot K entrance will be closed at 10:00 AM for placement of heavy equipment and rolling stock on Woodson Street.  Northbound traffic on Woodson Street will be maintained as long as possible to allow access to the Lot K north entrance.

 

The following information is included to help assist motorists in navigating the downtown area during the parade.

Exit east on Holmes Avenue

South on Church Street toward Governors Drive

West on Holmes Avenue from Five Points

South on Jefferson Street

East on Clinton Avenue

Exit through gaps in parade on Clinton Avenue at Green Street

 

VBC Garage

Exit onto Church Street. Travel south on Church Street or east on Clinton Avenue and exit the area through gaps in the parade.
