Drug Take Back Initiative
Huntsville, Alabama (September 20, 2011)
On Saturday, September 24, 2011, Huntsville City Police, Madison County
Sheriff’s Department, Madison City Police, Partnership for a Drug-Free
Community, Operation Green Team, the Solid Waste Disposal Authority (SWDA)
and Covanta Huntsville are inviting the public to safely dispose of any
expired or unwanted prescription medications.
This is why we are sponsoring this initiative:
Nationally, teenage prescription drug abuse is rapidly increasing, and your family medicine cabinet could become a teenager’s best supplier.
Help protect the environment. Collection programs greatly reduce the chance of medicines entering our water supply.
This program is completely confidential. No personal information will be collected. Please remove or black out all labels before arriving.
Drop off your medications at the drive-thru between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Place unwanted medications directly in disposal box. We request, if possible, that you remove all tablets from their original containers and place them in a plastic baggie for ease of turn in and disposal. However it is not mandatory requirement prior to turn in. Volunteers and law enforcement officers will be present to ensure safe and legal collection. Medications will be disposed of by the SWDA and Covanta Huntsville.
There will be three locations to better serve you:
