Huntsville Police Launch Awareness Campaign to Reduce Pedestrian Accidents

 

 

Huntsville, Alabama (June 09, 2011) Huntsville Police Chief Mark Hudson would like to announce the Departments pedestrian awareness campaign kickoff on June 10, 2011.  Huntsville Police have reviewed recent statistics that show a 133% increase in the amount of pedestrian accidents in the city of Huntsville in 2011.  In 2010 there were 9 pedestrian accidents in the city of Huntsville from January 1 to May 31. In 2011, there have been 21 pedestrian accidents from January 1 to May 31.

Huntsville Police would like to educate all citizens in the city of Huntsville on the responsibilities of motorists as they approach pedestrian crossings.  We would also like to educate all pedestrians on how to avoid becoming a victim at pedestrian crossings.  This campaign will run for approximately 90 days and will consist of signage, safety tips, and radio and television public service announcements.  The focus of the campaign is to educate the entire city of Huntsville with the goal of reducing pedestrian accidents.
