Huntsville Police Department Announce
Memorial Day Safety Mobilization “Click it or Ticket”

Huntsville, Alabama (May 24, 2011)  The Huntsville Police Department will be joining hundreds of law enforcement officials, highway safety representatives and safety advocates nationwide who have vowed support of the annual mobilization.  High visibility enforcement efforts such as “Click it or Ticket” are credited with the increasing national seatbelt usage rate from 58% in 1994 to an observed usage rate of 84%.

With NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) grant money for overtime, HPD will be placing officers out in force during this blitz period in all three precincts in an effort to educate the public on the necessity of seatbelt compliance. Motorists should be prepared for stepped up Click it or Ticket enforcement activities throughout Huntsville which will take place around the clock beginning May 24 through Memorial Day and ending on June 6.

HPD will also participate in aggressive DUI enforcement activities at various “HOT SPOT” locations throughout the Memorial Day Weekend.  These locations will include but not be limited to roadways such as Drake Avenue & Jordan Lane, University Drive & Memorial Parkway, Bob Wallace Avenue, Bailey Cove Road, Andrew Jackson Way, Sparkman Drive, Pulaski Pike, Winchester Road and Moores Mill Road.

Remember both drivers and passengers are required by law to be buckled up and both can be cited for non-compliance to this State law.
