Police Involved Shooting
Huntsville, Alabama (December 14, 2011)
On Monday, December 12, 2011, Huntsville Police Officers were in the
process of checking a subject in the parking lot of 125 Earl Street. The
subject produced a handgun and shot at the Officers. The Officers returned fire
and shot the offender. The Officers called HEMSI who transported the offender
to Huntsville Hospital.
The offender was later identified as Samuel Sirvoy Ward, DOB 12-08-84. Ward was admitted to the hospital where he will remain in police custody until released. He will then be booked into the Madison County Metro Jail.
The incident is being investigated by the
Department’s Major Crimes Unit and the Internal Affairs Division. Once the
investigation is completed, Chief Hudson has ordered an Incident Review Board to
review the facts and determine if the Officers’ actions were within departmental
policy. The board will include a Huntsville Police Captain, Lieutenant, and
Sergeant. Also present during the Incident Review Board will be representatives
from the City Attorney’s Office and the Madison County District Attorney’s
Office. The Officers involved have been placed in an administrative status
pending the outcome of the Incident Review Board, which is standard departmental
policy for police involved shootings.
