Huntsville Police Prepare for Rocket
City Marathon
Huntsville, Alabama (December 07, 2011)
More than 2,500 people are
expected to participate and watch the Rocket City Marathon this Saturday,
December 10, 2011. This race is the largest event in the city and requires
numerous officers and multiple road closings to keep runners safe. Motorists
should obey all Police Officers and Public Safety Aides who will direct traffic
at intersections along the route. Because of the length of the route, there will
only be a few posted barricades.
The Marathon will begin at 8:00 am on
Williams Avenue in front of the Holiday Inn Express, travel through the downtown
area and then south through Southeast Huntsville, until it begins the return
trip back north from Green Cove Road to the downtown area.
The Marathon will end at 2:00 pm in the back parking lot of the Holiday Inn on
Lowe Avenue. Motorists should try to avoid traveling along Airport Road and
Governor’s Drive near Huntsville Hospital as much as possible during these hours
and use alternate routes such as Weatherly Road, Drake Avenue and Bob Wallace to
get to their destinations.
