Huntsville Police Prepare for Santa’s Arrival

WAAY 31 Christmas Parade

Huntsville, Alabama (December 2, 2011) On Saturday December 3, 2011, preparations will begin for the annual WAAY 31 Christmas Parade through downtown Huntsville.  The Christmas Parade will stage in Lot "K" at the intersection of Clinton and Woodson, enter Clinton Avenue eastbound, turn left on Monroe Street continue onto Lincoln Street, turn right onto Holmes Avenue, turn left on Jefferson Street, turn left on Williams Street, turn right on Adams Street and disband at Townsend Avenue.

Huntsville Police Traffic Services Sergeant Jeffery B. Rice said all drivers should use extreme caution due to the large number of children anticipated in the downtown area. All traffic laws will be strictly enforced and expect some delays in getting around downtown from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. when the parade concludes.

The westbound lanes of Clinton Avenue from Church Street and the northbound lanes of Monroe Street from Clinton Avenue will be closed at 11:00 a.m. This will allow WAAY-TV 31 to set up their equipment for the telecast of the parade. All other roads will remain open downtown until shortly before the parade begins at 12:00. Roadways will be closed in stages as the parade nears the intersections. Access to businesses downtown will be kept open with minor delays expected.
