HPD Educates Public on Sound Ordinance
Huntsville, Alabama (April 2, 2009) On March 26, 2009, the Huntsville City Council passed an Amendment to the Sound Ordinance. This amendment is an enhancement to the current ordinance that allows Law Enforcement to issue citations or Private Citizens the ability to obtain a warrant for individuals that violate the Noise Ordinance.
The amendment to the current Ordinance states that “no person shall operate or cause to be operated any sound amplification system, either in a motor vehicle or separate from a vehicle, on any premises of public access so as to produce an audible sound measured at least 25 feet from the system”.
The Huntsville Police Department for a two week period will be educating the public by the issuance of warning citations to the violators of the new Amendment, this warning period will end April 16, 2009.We would caution the citizens that this warning does not apply to the current Sound Ordinance that has applied to public roadways. These offenders will still be issued a citation and be prosecuted.
This Amendment originated by the Huntsville Police Department was in response to the number one nuisance related complaint in the City of Huntsville. We hope this amendment will help to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Huntsville.
