Huntsville Police to Target “Hot Spot”  locations during New Years Weekend

Huntsville, Alabama (December 27, 2007) Effective Friday, December 28, 2007, through Tuesday, January 1, 2007 the Huntsville Police Department’s DUI Task Force will set up checkpoints at “Hot Spots” to keep motorists under the influence from getting behind the wheel. Spokesman Wendell Johnson said the state funded NAHSO grant will allow Officers to concentrate at pre-selected locations that are considered the most hazardous in Huntsville according to State statistics. The checkpoints will run from 11:30 p.m. until 3:30 a.m. The DUI Task Force will also use the state funding to set up additional check-points announced and unannounced during the News Year weekend. Johnson said Police Officers from the North, South and West Precincts will continue to monitor traffic and enforce laws across the city and at “Hot Spot” streets and intersections. Motorists are advised to have a valid drivers license; proof of insurance and vehicle registration. So far in December, Officers have issued 250 citations, including seventeen at intersections and several arrests have been made under the NAHSO funded grant.
